What Is a Flower Remedy?

If you read the descriptions of my services and came across the term “Bach flower remedy” and had no idea what that is, then this blog post is for you! I had never heard of Bach flowers or flower essences before starting my journey with Trinity School of Natural Health, but I was profoundly amazed by what they are and how well they work. Let me ellaborate…

Dr. Edward Bach was a physician in England who was very frustrated with how the medical community approached illness. (Even in the early 1900s people were frustrated with the medical community!) He thought that there was too much conentration on the disease and not the whole person. He understood that to truly heal a person, emotional health needed to be addressed. During his work with vaccines, he noticed a relationshop between how they work and the principles of homeopathy. He began experimenting with flowers and after several years, he discovered that various flowers are associated with specific personalities and moods. He assigned these flowers with their type or mood counterpart, and made personal blends for people depending on their personalities and present moods. For example, the flower essence Agrimony is for people who hide their struggle behind a happy face. These people “grin and bear it” and sometimes turn to drugs or alcohol to mask their pain.

My Own Experience Using Bach Flowers

After we moved to Texas in 2022, I had a really hard time adjusting to all the major life changes. We were trying to close on our house, search for a new house, and I had started a new job. During this time, my health suffered due to all the stress and uncertainty. At Trinity, I learned that when our emotions are out of balance, it can manifest as physical dis-ease. My difficulty to adapt to all the change turned into chronic constipation. I wasn’t going with the flow of life, and I was still trying to hang onto my old life. So I began using the Bach flower Walnut, and lo and behold, I became regular again!

My husband has intense anxiety anytime he has to get on an airplane—he has to travel a lot for work, so this is a regular thing for him. His flower type is Mimulus because he has different fears of known things like airplanes, snakes, or even if he knows that I’m in the room, I can easily sneak up behind him and scare him. Whenever he has a work trip coming up and he feels like this fears are in the driver’s seat, he uses Mimulus to bring things back into balance.

I love using Bach flower remedies as part of my wellness regimen. It’s very important to address our emotional health and to understand how emotions affect all of the different processes in our bodies.

How I Prepare a Remedy for Clients

First, I listen.

I have a thorough conversation with a client in order to get to know their personality and to understand the situations they’re going through. Then, I decide which flowers I think will work best for this client. I blend a specific number of drops of each flower essence with spring water into a dropper bottle. Clients take the remedy 4 times a day (more if needed) and discard after 2 weeks.
